The most interesting fact about the Olympic Games is that, despite all the controversies surrounding them, they manage to involve 10.500 athletes from 204 nations (Summer Olympic Games, London 2012).
The origin of the Olympics is shrouded in mystery. Year 776 BC is accepted as the inception date, while 393 AD is considered to be the date when the Games officially ended.
However, after approximately 1500 years the tradition was reborn. In 1859, thanks to Evangelos Zappas’ sponsorship, the Olympic Games were held for the first time after the break of a millennium and a half.
In 1894, the year when the Olympic Games were first held under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee, Pierre de Coubertin proposed “Citius, Altius, Fortius” as the Olympic motto.
“Citius, Altius, Fortius” means “Faster, Higher, Stronger” and it looks like a good motto for year 2020.
In 2020 this is what I wish for you:
-
- be faster in accomplishing your goals
- reach higher than you ever did
- become stronger than ever
Happy New Year!
